Be Mediocre – Rely on Financial Performance Measures

The business world is undergoing three social experiments, changing demographics, internetworking and changes to the design of work itself. These forces have changed, and will continue to change the organisational environment and the meaning of organisational performance.

These organisational changes should have been accompanied by a parallel development in the measurement of performance. A system should have evolved that is more multi-dimensional than only using financial measures. The use of targets and bonuses still has a place, but it lacks the ability to motivate and drive modern employees.

SYNAPSE believes that this evolution has not happened in any general way. As motivational tools, performance systems carried over from the last century lack reach. SYNAPSE make a case in this paper that organisations are leaving money on the table by not motivating all their people, all the time.
